Janet S. "Jan" Mackenzie

December 22, 1938 — November 22, 2020

Janet S. “Jan” Mackenzie, 81, lifelong Mooresville resident, passed away peacefully at home November 22, 2020. Jan was born December 22, 1938, in Mooresville, to the late Paul “Pete” and Louise (Duncan) Swisher. She married Max L. Mackenzie in 1957, and he preceded her in death in 1988.

Jan graduated from Mooresville High School in 1956, and while raising her four sons, graduated from the Indiana University School of Nursing in 1975. She worked for many years at the former Kendrick Hospital. She was still practicing nursing at the age of 78, and retired from St. Francis Hospital in 2018. Jan was a longtime and devoted member of Mt. Gilead Church. She enjoyed gardening, reading, knitting, and playing the organ and piano. Jan was dedicated to her faith, family, and enjoyed her career in nursing. She will be fondly remembered for her care for others by a loving family and many friends.

Survivors include four sons, Mike (Sherry), Mark (Tamara), Jay, and John (Terri); brother, Charles “Bud” (Jacque) Swisher; sister, Paula (Herb) Schelm; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Saturday, November 28, 2020, 10 am to 12 pm, at Mt. Gilead Church, 6019 East State Road 144, Mooresville. The funeral service will begin at 12 Noon at the church. All guests attending visitation and/or services will be required to wear a mask at all times in an effort to promote a safe environment. Burial will be at White Lick Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed on the Carlisle – Branson Facebook page, Memorial contributions may be made to the church; envelopes will be available at the service.
