Janine Brooks, age 42, of McLean, VA, passed away Monday, August 24, 2015 at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington. Born November 14, 1972 in Salt lake City, UT; she was the daughter of Henry Brooks, Jr. and the late Nancy Elizabeth (Clark) Brooks.
Janine graduated from Mooresville High School with the class of 1990. She attended Indiana Business College, receiving an Associates in Applied Science degree; she later earned her Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Strayer University. With her educational background, Janine worked various jobs. As a high school student, she began working at McDonald’s where she proudly worked her way up from a line employee to a manager and loved all aspects of the job; she still kept in touch with the people she worked with many years ago. She worked at Galyan’s, Simon Malls and once she moved to Virginia in 2002 she worked various temporary jobs including Walden Books until finding a permanent position at LMI. Working for LMI brought Janine many growth opportunities; she most recently worked as the Accounts Receivable Supervisor. Her work ethic was like no other; even after she was diagnosed with cancer in January 2012, she continued to work as much as she possibly could.
As a true fighter, Janine was not willing to let her diagnosis stop her; she began walking with different groups to raise money for pancreatic cancer research, the latest being Purple Stride. Those who knew and loved her, most commonly describe her as funny, generous, steady, loyal, brave, special and hardworking; she was this way with everyone she knew. With a heart as big as her smile, she was the best daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, co-worker or friend that you could ask for.
Survivors include her father, Henry Brooks, Jr.; siblings, Shere Elizabeth, and Marc William (Petya) Brooks; nephew, Zachary Michael-Scott; two nieces, Alexandra Elizabeth and Michaela Stephanie; as well as a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Janine’s life from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 in the chapel at Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Mooresville.
