Jean Hinshaw, 89, Monrovia, died peacefully December 21, 2013, in Sugar Grove Nursing Facility, Plainfield. Jean was born April 10, 1924, in Indianapolis and was the oldest of 15 children.
A longtime Morgan County resident, she was a member of Gasburg Baptist Church and was a proud homemaker, loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed playing cards, traveling, caring for animals, and was an accomplished cook.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight Richard Hinshaw; daughter, LuAnn Schalk; brothers, Thomas and Ernest Byrnes; sisters, Phyllis Burton, Grace Staccodo, and Mildred Lear.
Survivors include her children, Judd Hinshaw (Terri) of Monrovia, Donna Dolen of Mooresville, Nancy Glover of Florida, Judy Hinshaw of Mooresville, Lynn Kempf (Greg) of Avon; brothers, Rev. Donald Byrnes of Columbus, Rev. Lawrence Byrnes of Marion, Max Byrnes of Rushville, Jimmy Byrnes of Mooresville, Raymond Byrnes of Frankfort, Leroy Byrnes of Mooresville; sisters, Doris Stokes of Amo, Irene Wellenstine of Arkansas; son-in-law, Mike Schalk; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild.
The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Friday, December 27, 2013, in the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville, with calling there from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, December 26, 2013. Rev. Jim Shields will officiate, and burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Hall.
