John L. Altmeyer

John L. Altmeyer, 75, Camby, passed away September 18, 2016. Mr. Altmeyer was born August 27, 1941, in Indianapolis, to the late John H. and Ruth (Covey) Altmeyer.

John attended Decatur Central and Martinsville High Schools. He enjoyed a 34-year career at Navistar (International Harvester), retiring in 2004 as a machine repairman. He was a member of Valley Mills Christian Church. Additionally, John was an avid fisherman and looked forward to an annual fishing trip to Canada and more recently Minnesota. He also enjoyed music and playing the guitar. John will be missed by loving family and many friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Laura Altmeyer and one brother, Robert Altmeyer.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Joe (Whitaker) Altmeyer, to whom he was united in marriage July 15, 1961; one daughter, Tonia Kitchen of Mooresville; sister, Freida Jones of Spencer; one grandson, Jake Spenser Kitchen (Kaitlin); great grandson, Ethan Jay Kitchen.

Friends and family will gather Tuesday, September 20, 2016, 4 to 7 p.m. in the chapel at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. The funeral service to celebrate the life of John Altmeyer will begin at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 21, 2016, in Valley Mills Christian Church, 5555 S. Kentucky Ave., Indianapolis. Burial will follow in Gosport Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the church; envelopes will be provided.
