John L. Clark, 72, retired Mooresville Police Lieutenant, Town Council Member, and Civic Leader, died November 29, 2011, in St. Francis Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born May 11, 1939, in Pennington Gap, Virginia, to the late John “Hop” and Dora (Bergen) Clark.
John L. began with the Mooresville Police Department in 1967 and retired as a Lieutenant and Day Shift Supervisor in 2003. He had begun his fourth term on the Mooresville Town Council at the time of his death. John L.’s name is synonymous with Mooresville, Indiana. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed NASCAR, watching westerns, and restoring classic cars. Above all, John was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Bud Clark.
Survivors include his wife and best friend, Pat Clark, to whom he was united in marriage July 28, 1979; children, Jeff Clark, Bobby Massey, Michelle Robling (Tom), Debbie Mead, Patti Ratcliff (John), Sue Clark (Rob Sisk), Todd Clark, and Angela Webster (David); brothers, Don, Jim, and Paul Clark; sister, Irma Pence; 18 grandchildren.
The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m., Friday, December 2, 2011, at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville, with calling there from 3 to 8 p.m., Thursday, December 1, 2011. Chaplain George Watkins will officiate, and burial will be in the Mooresville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Churches in Mission.
