John P. Wilson

John P. Wilson, 95, Mooresville, died peacefully at home on July 23, 2012. Mr. Wilson was born June 21, 1917, in Newton, Illinois, to the late David Newton and Pearl (Phillips) Wilson.

Mr. Wilson was a lifelong farmer and was a longtime resident of Illinois, prior to relocating to Mooresville, to live closer to family. When living in Illinois, he was a member of the Southern Baptist Churches in Newton and Robinson. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and was an honorary member of the Indiana Rolling Thunder, Chapter 1. Mr. Wilson attended the Mooresville Church of God and the Mooresville American Legion Post Number 78.

Mr. Wilson was a proud United States Army veteran, having served in World War II. He was part of the 121st Squadron, 106th Calvary, and fought in a reconnaissance unit under U.S. General George S. Patton, Jr. He was a Purple Heart recipient. Mr. Wilson was captured as a POW and lived for four months as a prisoner with the Nazis. He was liberated in the spring of 1945. He was honorably discharged as a Sargent in September of 1945.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Rhoda Medenwald; brothers, Medford and Ira “Ike” Wilson.

Survivors include his wife, Lilly M. (Correll) Wilson, to whom he was united in marriage June 20, 1949; daughters, Donna Wright of Brownsburg, Pat Albright of Mooresville, Janet Sue Marks of Brownsburg, and Pam Finley of Danville; sisters, Jane Bugger, Marian Hileman, and Deane Wilson, all of Illinois; ten grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren.

The funeral service will begin at 7 p.m., Thursday, July 26, 2012, at the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville, with calling there from 4 p.m. The committal service will be held at 12 Noon, Friday, July 27, 2012, in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Madison, Indiana. In lieu of memorial contributions, memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana Rolling Thunder, Indiana Chapter 1, P.O. Box 26458, Indianapolis, IN 46226, or the the Mooresville American Legion, John Wilson Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 821, Mooresville, IN 46158.
