John William Spangler, 69, of Camby, passed peacefully in the comfort of his own home and with family at his side on Friday, July 19, 2024. John had battled health issues and cancer for over ten years. He has won the battle and is free of all pain. His life began in Indianapolis at St. Francis Hospital on December 30, 1954 when he was born to the late William John Spangler and Eleanor Anna (Mithoefer) Spangler.
He graduated from Southport High School with the class of 1973. He went on to further his education and earned a Bachelor of Science from Indiana State University. John married the love of his life, Carol M. Berney, on April 4, 1987. They have been married for over 37 years.
In the first part of his career, he worked in the automotive industry. He enjoyed auto racing and owned his own automotive shop, Spangler Automotive, from 1977-1989. Most recently he was an independent contractor insurance adjustor. Being a flood adjustor took John all across the country where he got to see many interesting places and people.
John enjoyed staying busy. He was a member of the Gordon Pipers (bagpipers), the Murat Shrine, the Southport Moose Lodge, and the Scottish Rite. Additionally, he had served as a member of Perry Township Box 13 Ambulance Support Unit and served as a volunteer firefighter.
