John W. Martin, 80, Mooresville, passed away suddenly March 4, 2021. John was born November 8, 1940, at the family home in Monrovia, to the late Clyde “Jack” and Lily “Jean” (Wagaman) Martin.
He graduated from Monrovia High School in 1958 and proudly served in the Indiana National Guard. John was a dedicated and valuable employee at Allison’s for 31 years, retiring in 1992. He also worked for many years for Ted Everett Farm Equipment. He was a 50 year member of the Monrovia Masonic Lodge, Local Union 933, Monrovia Lions Club, and the American Legion Post 103. He was a volunteer fire fighter for many years for the Monroe/Gregg Volunteer Fire Department. He loved western shows, John Deere lawn mowers, Coca Cola, and his grandkids’ events. On time was at least 30 minutes early for John. He was dependable and an ever present source of comfort to his loving family. Sunday was his favorite day of the week, when he always spent time with his family and never missed a phone call to his sister. John dedicated his whole life to his family. He will be forever cherished by his loving family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jared Martin and nephew, Tony Rooker.
Survivors include his children, Gina (Kurt) Everett and Eric (Ashley) Martin; sister, Judy Staselavage; grandchildren, Brittany and Bailey Everett; Garrett and Grant Martin; plus two inherited grandsons, Austin Jordan and Caleb Jones; nieces and nephew, Cindy Dowden Schmatlz (Jimmy), Joni Dowden Newlin (Jeff), John Ed Dowden (Megan), as well as a host of great nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate the life of John W. Martin Sunday, March 7, 2021, 2 to 7 p.m., at the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. The funeral service will begin at 10:30, Monday, March 8, 2021. Jack Elliott will officiate and burial will be in West Union Cemetery.
