Joseph L. Steffy

80, of Plainfield, Indiana, passed away on May 7, 2023. Joe was born on March 19, 1943 to Fred and Mabel (Allen) Steffy in Hillsdale, Indiana.

After Joe graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1961, he went on to study Tool and Die making. He worked numerous jobs in his field and retired in 2006 from United Technologies. In 1968, Joe met Deborah McNeely at the beauty shop where Debbie worked. Joe and Debbie went on to have 2 children, Cheryl, and Fred. After Joe retired, he spent his time traveling and spending time with family. He was a member of the Montezuma Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite. He will be remembered as a loyal, trustworthy, organized, tough on the exterior man, who was sometimes opinionated sharing his strong views on politics, but also kindhearted who would help anyone in need.

Joe was preceded in death by parents Frederick and Mabel Steffy and infant Steffy.

He is survived by wife Debbie, children Cheryl and Fred, grandchildren Arianna and Victoria, great granddaughter Adalynn, sister Ida Pearl (Tom), and nephew Thomas, who will all miss him dearly.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Joe’s life on Friday May 12^th from 5-7pm at Carlisle Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 13^th at 12:30pm in the funeral home. Graveside services will be at 3pm, Saturday in Helt’s Prairie Cemetery in Hillsdale, IN.
