Joseph W. Baire, 91, Martinsville, died November 11, 2014, in St. Francis Hospital, Indianapolis. Mr. Baire was born May 29, 1923, in Hendricks County, to the late Lem Porter and Gertrude (Malicoatt) Baire.
He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II and during the Korean War. Mr. Baire worked for many years as a mail handler for the United States Postal Service in Indianapolis. Following retirement, he worked in security at Marquette Manor for 20 years, retiring again in 2009. He was a member of the American Legion Post #64, Speeday VFW Post, Martinsville Masonic Lodge, Murat Shrine, and the Hudson Car Club. A car enthusiast and race fan, he raced stock cars and enjoyed cheering on Dale Earnhardt. He also enjoyed boating and mushroom hunting. A friend to many, Joe will be missed for his caring spirit and fun sense of humor.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Forrest W. Baire; 3 grandchildren, Jennifer, Stephanie, and Chad; brothers, George, Harold, Dink, Jay, Gene, and Jim; sisters, Dorothy and Birdie.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine (Cox) Baire, to whom he was united in marriage August 26, 1946; sons, Joseph W. Baire (Carol) of Fort Wayne, Steven R. Baire (Audrey) of Martinsville; daughter, Marsha K. Hall of Bloomington; sister, Marietta “Patsy” Eaton of Bainbridge; grandchildren, Steven, Joseph, James, Forrest (Natalie), Laura (Joe) and Brad; 13 great grandchildren, Savanah, Peyton, Josie, Katherine, Daniel, Ethan, Mason, Bain, Keely, Cooper, Carson, Samantha, Alexandra, and Benjamin; 1 great great grandchild, Jesse.
The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Monday, November 17, 2014, in the chapel at the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville, with calling there from 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday, November 16, 2014.
