K. Karen Bain

K. Karen Bain passed away peacefully holding her devoted husband’s hand on Wednesday, December 27, 2023. She was 72 years old. She was a member of Friendswood Baptist Church in Camby.

On September 22, 2007, K. married the love of her life and best friend, Robert Eugene Bain. They spent many years together exploring the country, sharing motorcycle adventures, and spending treasured time with family in Indiana and Florida. Anyone who spent time with the couple could see how deeply they loved each other, and their love easily spread to family and friends around them.

K. was born in Indianapolis on June 1, 1951, to the late Fredrick and Francis Handlon. She loved children and was an advocate for education. She left her career as an abstractor at Lawyers Title to devote herself to her children. She was a passionate volunteer and advocated for the education of children across the city through Title 1.  She was a devoted, loving mother and left a legacy of love.

K. was also an avid crafter, talented seamstress, and could recycle anything into something functional and beautiful. She saw beauty in everything.  

K. will be deeply missed by her husband, Bob Bain of Camby; son, Curtis (wife, Mandy) Swinford of Inman, South Carolina; daughter, Bonnie Swinford of Knoxville, Tennessee; stepdaughters, Stephanie (husband, Jeff) Badgley of New Palestine and Jennifer (husband, John) LaMar of Indianapolis; 2 sisters; 6 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and numerous other family and friends. Our world is forever touched by her grace, beauty, and devotion.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, January 2^nd from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the chapel at Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service and Crematory in Mooresville.  K.’s Life Celebration® Service will begin at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 3^rd.  There will be an hour of visiting time prior to the service.  She will be laid to rest in Mooresville Cemetery.
