Karen L. Oxford, 60, Rockville, died November 29, 2011, in St. Vincent Hospice, Indianapolis. Karen was born July 14, 1951, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the oldest daughter of Ralph and Wilma J. (Case) Oxford.
She graduated from Monrovia High School in 1969 and attended computer programming school in Kansas City. She later graduated with honors from IUPUI with a nursing degree. She worked early on for Methodist Hospital, in home health care, and for AUL as a case manager. More recently, she enjoyed working at the Rockville Women’s Correctional Facility in the infirmary. She was a certified legal nurse consultant. Karen love the outdoors, spending time in her flower gardens and birding. She was an exceptional caregiver and a loving and proud mother.
Survivors include her son, John O’Dell of Raleigh, North Carolina; siblings, Karla Schilling (Frank) of Avon, Rajeana Costin-Poore (Dan) of Tennessee, Layne Oxford of Camby, Lonnie Oxford (Betty) of Greenwood, Kevin Oxford (Denise) of Cloverdale, and Valisa Harlan (Bob) of Granger; daughter, Misty Furgalson of McCordsville; grandson, Nevin Furgalson.
A celebration of life will begin at 2 p.m., Saturday, December 3, 2011, at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Parke County Toys for Tots, c/o Anita Blaine Robinson, 10344 East Red Rose Lane, Rockville, IN 47872.
