Katherine S. Haas
84, of Plainfield, passed away on September 16, 2022 at her home, surrounded by her family. Katherine was born on August 23, 1938, in West Alexandria, Ohio to the late Glenn H. Baker and Alice S. (Hamm) Baker.
Katherine married the love of her life, Leonard L. Haas on September 5, 1959, and recently celebrated 63 years of marriage. Together they had three children, Michael, Teresa, and Lisa. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Miami of Ohio and her master’s degree in music education from West Chester University in Pennsylvania. Katherine was a talented musician, playing the violin professionally for many groups over the years including, the Dayton Symphony in Ohio, the Wilmington Symphony in Delaware, the Kennett Symphony in Chester County, Pennsylvania, the Terre Haute Symphony in Indiana, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis, and the Springfield Symphony in Ohio, where she was able to accompany her favorite singer, Tony Bennett, in concert. She also taught music education in the Penn-Delco and Coatesville public schools for many years.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mooresville, the Suzuki Association of America, and a founding member of the Chester County Trail Club. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, playing in quartets as well as being an accomplished hiker, hiking over 600 miles of the Appalachian Trail.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, William G. Baker.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Leonard L. Haas; son Michael L. Haas (Diane Moon); daughters Teresa Stachofsky (Mark), Lisa Backer (Daniel); 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren with another great grandchild on the way.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate Katherine’s life on Saturday, October 8th from 10am-11am at the First Baptist Church of Mooresville, with memorial services beginning Saturday at 11am in the church, officiated by Pastor Larry Floyd.
She will be interred in Gratis, Ohio at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made in Katherine’s memory to the First Baptist Church of Mooresville’s Music Department, 680 N. Indiana St. Mooresville, Indiana 46158.
