Laura Davis (aka Mae) Burlingame passed away May 22. 2021 while in the process of moving from her beloved Mooresville Indiana to North Carolina to be closer to her family. Laura was 98 years old, but her secret to staying young at heart was not thinking of herself as old. She was the daughter of Cecil and Iva (Russell) Davis, both who preceded her in death, along with her sister Marlene Henry. Laura married James "Jim" Burlingame November 14, 1945 and had almost fifty years of a happy life together, prior to Jim’s passing on June 22, 1995.
Having been raised in Winslow, Indiana, Laura attended Lockyear Business College after graduating from Winslow High School in 1941. After marriage, Jim and Laura relocated to Indianapolis prior to building a house in Mooresville in which Laura lived for 65 years. She retired after 20 years from the Superintendent’s office of Mooresville Consolidated Schools. Laura loved to dance, swim, play cards and most of all go shopping. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a member of the Theta Alpha Chi Sorority, Tri Kappa and the Mooresville Birthday Girls. Laura was an avid fan of Indiana University and especially basketball.
A special thank you to her friends, neighbors and relatives who included Laura in many special events and were always available to assist her if the need arose. You all contributed to her happiness and quality of life.
Laura is survived by her son, Steve (Barbara) Burlingame of Asheboro, NC; Grandchildren Bryan Burlingame of Cornelius, NC and Jenne (Mickey) Kendziora of Raleigh, NC. Laura was extremely happy playing with her four Great Grandchildren especially hide and seek, Kate (12) and Lyla (10) Kendziora and Davis (8) and Brooke (6) Burlingame.
