Lawrence A. “Larry” Diersing 73, of Bargersville passed away the afternoon of Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at home, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Indianapolis on November 30, 1942 to Jean Marie (Lundergan) Diersing and the late John Fred Diersing. On June 26, 1965, Larry was united in marriage to his loving wife, Carole (Powell) Diersing; she survives.
Larry was a graduate of Carmel High School and later attended Indiana Bible College. In his early years, he worked as an electrician for various contractors. In 1975, Larry started a long and successful career in sales. He began by selling welding supplies and ended his career selling medical oxygen. His 20-year career at Linde/BOC Gases lead him to receive many salesperson of the year awards. He retired in 2007.
A devoted servant of the Lord, Larry was an active member of various Christian congregations throughout the Indianapolis area including; Lawrence Christian Church, Oaklandon Christian Church and East 91st Street Christian. After moving to the Mooresville area in 2002, Larry became a member of his beloved Church at Mt. Gilead where he served as an Elder, was a co-founder of the successful Hope Gardens and Celebrate Recovery and ministered to prisoners in Plainfield for several years.
He was a member of the Lawrence Kiwanis Club for many years and was a recipient of the Kiwanian of The Year award. In his spare time Larry enjoyed golfing, camping with his family, hiking, woodworking, NASCAR and football. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Larry found joy spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1960 until 1963.
Along with his father, Larry was preceded in death by his brother, David Lee Diersing and brother-in-law, Larry Meister.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Carole; two children, Larry Allen (Catherine) Diersing of Bloomington and Lori Anne (Bryan) Johnson of Greenwood; brothers, John (Debbie) Diersing of Fishers and Michael Diersing of California; sisters, Patty Meister of Arcadia, Kathy (Jerry) Payne of Fishers, Mary Beth (Steve) Males of Sheridan and Bobbie (Bob) Sutton of Noblesville; his grandchildren, Colin Diersing, Corp. Spencer Diersing, USMC, Adam Diersing, Eli Diersing, Mason Johnson, Cody Johnson, Grace Johnson and Hunter Johnson; many nieces and nephews; a host of friends and colleagues and his beloved church family at The Church at Mt. Gilead in Mooresville.
Family and friends will gather for visitation from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, April 8 at The Church at Mt. Gilead in Mooresville. Jeff Faull and Dave Thurman will conduct a memorial service at 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 9 at the church. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the building fund at The Church at Mt. Gilead; envelopes will be provided.
