Lela F. Ewers

Lela F. Ewers, 73, of Mooresville passed away November 16, 2016 at Seton Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis. Lela was born May 2, 1943 in Frankfort, Indiana to the late William and Mary F. (Paris) Young; both of her parents preceded her in death. On March 17, 1962 she was united in marriage to Wayne D. Ewers and he survives.

A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Lela spent many years caring for her family as a homemaker while attending the University of Indianapolis where she was honored to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work in 1999.

She worked as a sentencing consultant at the Marion County Public Defenders Agency for several years; she retired in 2009. Dedicated to her career and community, Lela was a volunteer and past president for Indiana C.U.R.E, a volunteer for the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center and at the Indiana Boys School in Plainfield. In 1989, she was honored to receive the volunteer of the year award from the Juvenile Division of the Marion County Superior Court. Lela was a member of Friendswood Baptist Church in Camby and the Moose Lodge in Greenwood.

Other survivors include her children, Steven W. Ewers of Indianapolis, Christina F. Ewers of Plainfield, and David A. (Rebekah) Ewers of Mooresville and her grandson, Kyle D. Ewers of Plainfield.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Lela F. Ewers from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18, 2016 in the chapel at Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. The funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016 at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Plainfield.
