Leonard D. Chance

Leonard D. Chance, 98, Terre Haute, former longtime Indianapolis resident, passed away November 7, 2024. Mr. Chance was born April 16, 1926, in Indianapolis, to the late Curtis and Ruby (Settles) Chance. He was married to the late Mary Frances (Mosley) Chance for more than 50 years before her death in 1998. 

Mr. Chance graduated from Arsenal Technical High School and worked for the former New York Central Railroad for 30 years. He was a longtime and loyal member of Old Bethel United Methodist Church. Before the days of livestreaming, Leonard ensured that good recordings of the church services were made and then distributed to the shut-in members of the congregation. He enjoyed model trains and was a talented woodworker. He was particular and precise in making clocks and suncatchers. For many years, he and Mary Frances enjoyed wintering in Ocala, Florida. He will be fondly remembered for his kindness, his caring nature, and his devotion to his family. 

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by an infant son, David Michael Chance and a daughter, Sue Ann Chance; one sister, Mildred. 

Survivors include his loving and devoted daughter, Donna Marie O’Farrell; grandchildren, Shaun (Tiffany) O’Farrell, Angela (Gary Lutz) O’Farrell, and Aaron O’Farrell; great grandchildren, Shelby and Logan O’Farrell. 

Leonard’s Life Celebration Visitation and Funeral Service will be held at the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, 39 East High Street, Mooresville. Visitation will be Thursday, November 14, 2024, 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Friday, November 15, 2024. Entombment will be in Washington Park East Cemetery.
