Margaret A. Smith Mendenhall, 90, of Morgan County, passed away March 3, 2016, at Grandview Health Care Center in Martinsville. She was born in Morgan County to the late Edward M. and Osie (Waltz) Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn A. Mendenhall, her son Edward R. Mendenhall, and grandson Eddie Austin Mendenhall.
When starting her family with Glenn, Margaret spent her time seeing to the household and caring for her five children. She also helped run two family businesses. Later in life, after her children were grown, she chose to take on work as a bookkeeper for the Marion County Prosecutor and the Controllers offices. She then became a secretary working for Decatur Township Trustee, Glenn Mendenhall. She was a member of the First Christian Church early in life, then Friendswood Baptist Church and later in life, the Church at Mt. Gilead. She enjoyed spending time with her family, whom she loved, especially the large family gatherings for holidays.
She is survived by her four children, Nancy J. Belcher (Ron) of Martinsville, Bonny J. Morales of Camby, Beverly A. Wray (Allen) of Monrovia, and Glenna A. Reed (Robin) of Camby; her sister, Phyllis J. Rushton (Bernie) of Mooresville. She is also survived by 12 loving grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, 2 pm in the chapel at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville, with interment following at West Newton Cemetery. Terry Crist of the Church at Mt. Gilead will officiate services. Visitation will be held from 12 pm until the service time at the funeral home.
