Marian P. Hunter

January 2, 1929 — March 1, 2020

Marian P. Hunter, 91, of Mooresville, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2020.
Marian was born in 1929 at home in Stanley, Kentucky to the late Gilbert and Elizabeth Perigo, and raised in Boonville, Indiana where upon high school graduation she was the first girl to receive a college scholarship, much to the chagrin of the boys in her class. She attended one year at Hanover College, then finished her bachelor’s degree at Purdue University, and her master’s in education at Butler University.

She met her future husband at Purdue and married Max Hunter on September 2, 1950, and they were together until his death in 2010.

She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and was an active member of the Mooresville First United Methodist Church for 70 years. She began and ended her teaching career in the Mooresville school system where she taught for 37 years in the Newby and Neil Armstrong schools; the nurses at The Springs will confirm that she was still correcting grammar even in her last days of life. She was a founding member of the Mooresville Garden Club and was passionate about flowers and gardening. Other activities included raising rabbits, beekeeping, bridge club, travel (with many trips to Alaska), and shelling on the Florida beaches.

She was preceded in death by her husband Max Hunter and daughter Vicki Hunter, and two sisters, Susanne Hinckfoot and Carolyn Dodson.

She is survived by sons Brad (Sharon, Margaret, and Hillary) and Tracy (Chris, Ross, and Mackenzie), son-in-law Robin Shields (Nicholas, Adele), and two sisters Nancy Zimmerman and Lois Truax.

If you wish to make a donation in her memory, in lieu of flowers please make contributions to the Mooresville Come Into The Garden Club (at Citizens Bank), or the Mooresville First United Methodist Church. An alternative would be the Plant A Tree program on the Carlisle - Branson Funeral Service & Crematory website.

At Marian’s request, there will be no funeral service. A graveside service will be held at a yet to be determined date.

Final care and arrangements have been entrusted to Carlisle - Branson Funeral Service & Crematory. Visit www.CarlisleBranson.com to share a favorite memory or to sign the online guest registry.
