Marvin Earl Swinney, 82, Greenwood, passed away suddenly on April 11, 2018. Marvin was born June 23, 1935, in Mooresville, to the late Charles and Myrtle (Smith) Swinney.
Marvin received his bachelor’s degree in business from Lynchburg College in Virginia. After graduating college he proudly served in the United States Army as a Military Intelligence Specialist. He worked thirty plus years for the state of Indiana as an auditor for Family and Social Services Mr. Swinney was a long time member of the First Christian Church, Mooresville. Marvin appreciated the arts in life such as ballroom dancing, old movies, and symphonies. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially IU basketball and football. Marvin stayed in close contact with his high school class of 53’. Marvin was devoted to his family, so he was always involved in organizing family events and reunions. Marvin’s caring and generous personality will be greatly missed by his loving friends and family.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brothers, Harold, Donald, Charles, Raymond, and Thomas Swinney; and two sisters, Estel Jones and Dorthy Clarkston.
Survivors include his children, Michael Swinney of Greenwood, and Michele (Greg) Dowler of Powell, Ohio; three grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah, and Andrew Dowler; and a sister, Melba Tracy of Mooresville.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Marvin Swinney on Saturday, April 14, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., at First Christian Church, Mooresville; service will follow at 12:00 p.m. Burial will be private 2 p.m. at West Newton Cemetery.
