Mary Kathleen Jay, 86, of Mooresville, Indiana, went peacefully to her Lord on February 1, 2017 after an eight-year battle with cancer.
Friends and family will gather to honor and celebrate the life of Kathleen on Sunday, February 5, 2017, 4 to 6 p.m., in the chapel at Carlisle - Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m., Monday, February 6, 2017, at the funeral home. Burial will be in West Newton Cemetery.
Kathleen was born to Ralph and Minnie (Nelson) Anders on May 9, 1930, in Rheem’s Creek, North Carolina. She graduated from Van Buren High School. She married James Nelson Jay on December 23, 1951. Kathleen worked for Indiana National Bank for fourteen years, was active in Mooresville’s Likely Literary Club, the Republican Party, and was a member of Valley Mills Friends Meeting.
Kathleen now walks the kingdom of heaven with her husband Nelson, her son Jeffrey Jay (Brenda), and her daughter Jennifer (Jay) Funcheon, who preceded her in death.
Her deepest pride was for her family, and she especially loved having her children and grandchildren stop by for a cup of coffee and dessert. She was the biggest fan of her grandchildren’s extracurricular activities and attended just about every sporting event they participated in. Kathleen’s sense of humor and laughter were contagious, her faith unwavering, and her love touched all whose paths she crossed. Her selflessness was paramount, and her legacy will continue to thrive through all of her grandchildren, for whom she and Nelson gave the gift of college tuition.
Survivors include her “Three Amigos,” sons Gregory Jay (Jill) of Mooresville, James R. Jay (Marsha) of Plainfield and David Jay (Lisa) of Plainfield; sister Barbara Maggart (Don) of Wabash; thirteen grandchildren; and five great grandchildren; all of whom will miss her dearly.
