Melvin Coomer
85, of Mooresville, passed away after a long illness at Countryside Meadows in Avon on September 22, 2017. Melvin was born on January 27, 1932 in Wolfe County, Kentucky to the late Wilson and Madge (Bryant) Coomer.
Melvin was a devout Christian, who loved his family dearly. He worked several jobs over the years, often several at a time to provide for his family. Most recently, he worked as a custodian for Indiana University in Indianapolis, retiring after many years of service. In his early years, he enjoyed hunting with his friends, however he gave up hunting to provide for his family. He was also very handy and a great mechanic who would often fix many family and friends vehicles when they needed help.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Glada (Spencer) Coomer, of Mooresville, daughters; Geraldine Cullum and her husband William of Speedway, Loretta Coffey and her husband Jack of Indianapolis, Linda Whitney of Bloomington, a brother; “H.D.” Coomer, sisters; Wilma Jean Carpenter, Gladys Davis, 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, with two more on the way!
Funeral services will be held Wednesday Sept.27th at 2:00pm in Town Center Church, Mooresville, where he was a 53year member. Visitation will also be held Wednesday from 12noon until time of the services at the church.
Burial will follow the services in White Lick Cemetery, Mooresville.
