Michael Gray. One person can make a difference in this world, and that was Larry Carlson. His engaging smile, wonderful laugh, quick wit, friendly and kind personality along with his steadfast loyalty to others, were qualities that were enduring to family, friends and colleagues. During Larry’s well fought battle, these personality traits and strengths were evident, daily. He died in Bonita Springs, FL under the loving care of Hope Hospice on February 25, 2013. A retired General Agent, from 1981-2000, with Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. where he earned the Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant designations. He was a proud member of Columbus Rotary. Born in Cambridge, Ill, he graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College where he served as President of Phi Delta Theta. After retirement, Larry was honored to participate in the Circle of Grandparents with Granby Elementary School. He loved reading to the young students and sharing life stories. Larry will be missed by his beloved wife Janet, whom he married July, 1965; his loving daughters and their families, Laurel and Mark Lewis and their children Sam, Andrew and Sara; Kathleen and Terry Fletcher and her son Connor Smith; nieces and nephew. He is preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Marjorie Carlson; Brothers Donald and Dean Carlson. Family will receive friends Monday from 4-7 p.m. at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 N. High Street, Columbus where we will honor Larry’s life with a Funeral Service at 12 Noon, Tuesday, March 5, 2013. Reverend Eugene Folden, officiating. Interment to follow at Union Cemetery.
