Mildred J. Carter

Mildred J. Carter, 81, passed away on the afternoon of September 10, 2015 at Aspen Trace Senior Living in Greenwood. She was born in Kentucky on February 17, 1934 to the late Charles and Bertha (Maxwell) Hurston. Formerly of Mooresville, Mildred was proud to be a faithful member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church for most of her adult life; there she enjoyed teaching Sunday school and vacation Bible school. For many years she worked assembly and in the office at the Allison’s Division of General Motors. After she retired she worked various part-time positions. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and Senior Center in the Mars Hill area. She was a musician and a political enthusiast and enjoyed poetry, writing, gardening, bird watching, and reading; most of all, she enjoyed her family and spending quality time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her four children, Jeffery Russell of Indianapolis, Tony (Wife: Jenny) Russell of Indianapolis, Hannah (Husband: George) Lewis of Bargersville and Dr. Trina Valone of Highland, Indiana; 14 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Her three sons, Ricci, Stephen and Timothy Russell all preceded her in death along with her four sisters, one brother and two great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Good Shepherd Baptist Church in Mooresville. Family and friends will visit from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the church. Burial will follow at White Lick Cemetery in Mooresville.
