Mildred Shields, mother of 5, stepmother of 7, grandmother of 28, great-grandmother of 49, sister, loving wife and dear friend, passed away December 24, 2011 at the age of 94. Known as Milly as a child and affectionately as Grandma Pudding in recent years, she is survived by sister, Mary Alltop and brothers Lawrence and Harold Schmidt, daughters Carol Burnett and Kathy Holtke, sons Morris “Bud” and David Gray, and her step-children, Marlene Lamb, Sally Brown, Terry, Robert, Donald, and Ronald Shields. She was preceded in death by husband Robert, daughter Jeannette Herrin, sister Dorothy Stephens, and step-son, Tilden Shields.
A funeral service will be held at Carlisle - Branson Funeral Service & Crematory on Thursday, December 29, 2011, 2 p.m., with visitation on Wednesday, December 28, 2011, from 4-8 p.m. She will be laid to rest at White Lick Cemetery, Mooresville.
Born on March 10, 1917, Mildred lived most of her life in Indianapolis and the surrounding area. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed going to church, crossword puzzles, reading mysteries, gardening, being with her family and playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her quick wit and playful sense of humor touched everyone who knew her.
She is loved greatly and will be missed dearly. Until we meet again. We love you!!
