Nelda Ruth Blair Stapert was born in Clay County, Indiana, the second of three children, to Walter and Olive Hazel Blair on January 25, 1933. She went into the arms of Jesus from her home on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at 8:35 P.M. at the age of 80, surrounded by friends and family. Her husband and caretaker, Ronald Dale Stapert, whom she married October 7, 1953, was present at her death.
Nelda was reared in Owen County, Indiana. She attended Bowling Green Elementary School and Jordan Village Schools. Her graduation was from Patrickburg High School in 1951. During her life she had been employed by the Superintendent of Schools of Owen County, Morgan County REMC, was an Avon Representative, was the cashier at the Centerton Elementary School, and worked in the Kindergarten at Zion Baptist Fellowship. Nelda loved reading the Bible and playing hymns on the piano. Her other passions were babysitting her grandchildren and great grandchildren, her church family, quilting, and crocheting. Her church membership was with Zion Baptist Fellowship.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson Michael Dale Stapert, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Ronald; a sister, Martha Fern Galloway of Spencer, IN; a brother, Charles Otis Blair of Oklahoma; two sons, Michael Dale Stapert of Mooresville, IN, and Marcus Walter Stapert of Freedom, IN; six grandchildren, Joshua Stapert, La Shanda Stapert, Marcus Walter Stapert, Jr., Linda Stapert Pinkston, Alisha Stapert and Ronald Leslie Stapert; seven great-grandchildren, Jordyn Stapert, Daisy Monagahan, David Pinkston, Steven Pinkston, and Juanita Stapert, Marcus Taylyn Stapert, and Liam Stapert.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 24, 2013, in the Zion Baptist Fellowship Church at 7520 State Rd. 142, Martinsville, with calling there an hour prior. Additional calling will be observed from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, June 23, 2013, in the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. Pastor Timothy Pool will officiate the services. Burial will follow the service in Nebo Memorial Park, Martinsville. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Zion Baptist Fellowship Church, 7520 State Rd. 142, Martinsville, IN 46151.
