Nona Gail (Freeman) Willoughby

August 19, 1942 — June 4, 2022

Nona Gail (Freeman) Willoughby, 79, Mooresville, passed away June 4, 2022, in Cumberland Trace, where she resided in the memory care unit. Gail was born August 19, 1942, in Evarts, Kentucky, to the late Curtis Freeman, Sr. and Vivian (Gilbert) Freeman.

She graduated from Mooresville High School in 1961 and from the Speedway Academy of Beauty Culture. Armed with an incredible work ethic, Gail enjoyed a successful career as a hairdresser in Mooresville that spanned more than 45 years, being employed at O’Dell’s Beauty Shop. Gail was an active and devoted member of First Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and always interested in inviting friends to be a part of her church family. Gail was an avid reader and enjoyed collecting movies; she was especially fond of Disney movies. Above all, Gail was strongly devoted to her family. She always looked forward to family gatherings that included her siblings and their families. Gail will be fondly remembered for her sweet personality and wonderful sense of humor that could make you laugh or even blush at times.

In addition to her parents, Gail was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold “Sonny” Willoughby, her daughter, Paula Boyden; her first grandson, Erik Spoon.

Survivors include her daughters, Carla Golay and Misti Henson; siblings, Ivan (the late Cova) Freeman, Jesse Freeman, and Curtis (Sheila) Freeman, Jr., Alice (the late Ross) Jones, and Virginia (Wally) Napier; grandchildren, Byron Spoon, Nicholas (Kate) Boyden, Abby (Dylan) Hines, Morgan Henson USAF, and Bradon Henson USAF; six great grandchildren.

Gail’s Life Celebration® Visitation will be held Monday, June 13, 2022, 12 p.m., to 2 p.m., at the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. Services will begin at 2 p.m., followed by burial in White Lick Cemetery. Visit www.CarlisleBranson.com to share a favorite memory or to sign the online guest registry.
