It is with great sadness we share the news that Norma Jean Keutzer (Cole) passed quietly in Port Charlotte, Florida at the age of 92. Until two weeks prior to her death she lived by herself in her home with her favorite miniature Poodle Sunny until she was suddenly taken ill and passed quickly.
Norma was born in Indianapolis on January 23, 1931 where she lived and went to school on the east side of town. She met her future husband, Robert (Bob) Keutzer, and they were married on July 16, 1948. They remained happily married for 63 years until Bob’s death in 2012. They had three children and lived on the southwest side of Indianapolis until Bob retired from the Chevrolet plant in 1981 where he worked in the skilled trades department. Shortly after retirement they moved to Florida and bought a house in the Port Charlotte area where they lived out the rest of their lives.
Norma was a landscape oil painting artist and studied under Clayson Baker and eventually taught oil painting to others. She was a member of various art leagues including the Brown County, Indianapolis, Punta Gorda, and Port Charlotte leagues. Another passion was collecting Depression era antique jewelry in addition to other items.
Norma had deep faith and was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Brownsburg and was a founding member of the Peace River Baptist Church in Punta Gorda, Florida. She was very proud of the work that she and Bob did in helping to found this church. In her final days, she said she knew she was going to heaven and was she was ready.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Dorothy Mills (Robert), Marianne John (Pete), and Raymond (Bud) Cole, Jr., parents, Raymond and Pauline Cole and her husband Robert Keutzer. She is survived by three children; Philip Keutzer (Nadine), Jana Hamilton (Mike), and Mark Keutzer (Debbie), three grandchildren, Rusty, Gregory, and Rebecca, and six great grandchildren.
