Olas Afton “Skip” Hubbs, II
77 of Mooresville, passed away on May 19, 2022, at Hickory Creek in Franklin, IN. Skip was born on August 6, 1944, in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Olas A. Hubbs, Sr. and Hilda (Hotopp) Hubbs.
Skip was a 1962 graduate of Decatur Central High School and later honorably served in the U.S. Army. After service, he earned his Associates Degree in Engineering and Technology from Purdue University. Always talented with his hands, Skip worked for a hobby/miniature company for years and most recently with JC Penney, where he retired after 10 years.
Skip enjoyed staying active throughout his life cycling and hiking. He met his wife, Marsha, on a trail in Morgan-Monroe State Forest where she was working a trail runner’s aid station for the Hoosier Hikers Council. He later joined HHC and helped build new trails along with Marsha. Together they shared a passion for hiking and hiked many trails in Indiana and the Appalachian Trail, where they hiked 1,606.5 miles together. They also had many fun years with the Quakertown Shakers Square Dance Club.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister Barbara O’Connor.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 20 years, Marsha (Newcomer) Hubbs; sons Olas A. “Chip” Hubbs, III (Staci), Andrew Hubbs; sisters Linda Munger (Dan), Beverly Gaalema and four grandchildren, Abbey, Gracie, Peyton, and Haley.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Skip’s life on Wednesday, June 8th from 12:00 to 2:00 at Carlisle Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville, with memorial services starting at 2:00 Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial will follow the services with military honors at Mooresville Cemetery.
