Ollie M. Skillern, Sr. 88, Martinsville, died peacefully at home May 22, 2013. Mr. Skillern was born November 16, 1924, in Indianapolis, to the late John Skillern and Lilly (Edge) Smith.
He worked for 33 years in the freight business, ten of those with ABF. He was an ordained minister and touched many lives through evangelization through the years. He enjoyed repairing furniture, woodworking, and staying busy. Mr. Skillern especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. A good husband, father, and grandfather, Ollie will be missed by his loving family.
In addition to parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include his loving wife, Sandra (Gregory) Skillern, to whom he was united in marriage February 2, 1963; children, Ginger Skillern of Indianapolis, Ollie Skillern, Jr. of Mooresville, Christopher Skillern (Michelle) of Heritage Lake, Donna Baker of Stilesville, Dianna Compton of Florida, Betty Janitz of Florida, and William Skillern of Indianapolis; 18 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren.
The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 25, 2013, in the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville, with calling there from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2013.
