Oren A. Saunders

92, of Indianapolis, passed away on March 26, 2020 at Robin Run Village, surrounded by his family. Oren was born on October 14, 1927 in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Oren and Marceline (Mohr) Saunders.

Oren grew up in Indianapolis and graduated from Arsenal Technical High School. After high school, he attended Indiana University and later joined the Indiana National Guard where he honorably served his country. He worked as a manager of inventory control for Stokely-Van Camp for 30 years before retiring, at age 55, in 1982.

He married the love of his life, Joan Saunders on June 3, 1951. They were married over 68 years. He and Joan enjoyed square dancing together, spending winters in Arizona and listening to Big Band music. He is survived by his wife Joan. He will be missed by daughters Holly Saunders of Zionsville and Carol Jarrell (John) of Speedway. Other family members include Jennifer Riley, grand daughter (Rob) and Oren’s great grandson, Evan, as well as his other grand daughter, Laura Huffman (Jimmy Hughes).

Oren and Joan both enjoyed staying active throughout his life and in retirement. He enjoyed doing the crossword puzzle in the newspaper every morning, traveling, driving for various car rental companies and was a die-hard Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees fan. He loved playing cribbage on Thursdays with his new friends at Robin Run, as well as attending the weekly “Happy Hour” with his son-in-law, John Jarrell.

According to his wishes he will be cremated and laid to rest at Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield, Indiana. Services will be held privately at a later date.

The family would like you to remember Oren by picturing him tapping his foot, whenever you hear a DixieLand Band song.
