Pat Overholser, 79, longtime Mooresville resident and community leader, passed away peacefully September 3, 2020. Pat was born May 17, 1941, in Warsaw, the only child of the late Emory G. and Marjorie (Sprague) Harrison.
She graduated from Rensselaer High School and briefly attended Purdue University. Pat graduated from Ball State University with a degree in education and earned her Master’s degree in education from Indiana University. She taught in Plymouth, Ellettsville, and at Newby Elementary in Mooresville. In 1982, Pat founded Children’s Park Child Care and operated a daycare in Mooresville and Avon, retiring in 2015. Pat was a lifelong educator and a strong advocate for children.
Pat also stayed active in her community. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Tri Kappa Sorority. She served three terms on the Mooresville Town Council and was an appointee on a Daycare Commission formed by former Governor Evan Bayh. Pat was elected the first female Director of Citizens Bank, serving from 1996-2011. She was named Mooresvillian of the Year in 1996. Above all, Pat was strongly devoted to her family. She enjoyed boating, trips to Disney World, and just about anywhere in Florida. An elegant lady, she will be fondly remembered for her intelligence, strength, kindness, and her consistent generosity.
Survivors include her high school sweetheart and husband of 57 years, William Overholser; sons, Scott Overholser (Jay Maupin) of Chicago and Jeff Overholser (Salli) of Mooresville; three grandchildren, Hunter, Anna, and Ashley.
Friends and family will gather Wednesday, September 9, 2020, 1 to 3 p.m., in the First United Methodist Church, 900 N. Indianapolis Road, Mooresville. A memorial service to celebrate Pat’s life will follow at 3 p.m. Private inurnment will be in White Lick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, you are encouraged to bring children’s books that will be donated to Churches in Mission to encourage children to read.
