Peggy L. (Close) Abbott, 87, of Mooresville, passed away April 5, 2021. Peggy was born December 6, 1933 in Spencer, Indiana, to the late Neal and Laura (Christy) Close. Peggy married the love of her life William Baughman Abbott on November 12, 1954. Peggy and William were married for almost 45 years.
Peggy participated in many things over the years. She was the Democratic Party Precinct Committeeman, Park Board for Pioneer Park, big advocate for WFYI to be brought into this area, and library supporter. She worked at Neil A. Armstrong as a teacher’s aide for a few years during the late 70’s and early 80’s. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Peggy enjoyed reading, word puzzles, genealogy, crocheting, and traveling. She loved watching the birds and squirrels. She was always excited to hear about what was going on in her family’s life especially her grandbabies. Peggy is going to be greatly missed by her loving family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Baughman Abbott; daughter, Linda Kay Campbell; siblings, Richard Eugene Close and Norma J. (Close) Miller.
Survivors include her children, Karen (Donald) Anderson, William A. Abbott, and Denise (Paul) Scherf; grandchildren, Traci Shumaker, Krissi Fineran, Erica Jennings, Laura Sutton, Rebecca Hameda, Marjorie Scherf, and Brian Scherf; and 17 great grandchildren.
An informal visitation to celebrate the life of Peggy will be Tuesday, April 20, 2020 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory. Per family’s request, please wear a mask. Inurnment will be private at White Lick Cemetery. While flowers are welcome, memorial contributions may be made to WFYI and the Mooresville Library.
