Phyllis C. Smith

 94, of Mooresville, passed away on August 15, 2024 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Mooresville. Phyllis was born on August 10, 1930 in Brooklyn, Indiana to the late Oscar Lee Copeland and Mildred “Tucker” Josephine (Keller) Copeland.

A lifelong resident of Morgan County, Phyllis graduated from Mooresville High School, in 1948. She worked as bus driver for the Mooresville Community Schools, and worked for the Department of Motor Vehicles at the Mooresville Branch for 25 years, before it was closed. She was a long-time member of the Friends Church in Mooresville, as well as serving as a Trustee of the White Lick Friends Cemetery. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Phyllis will be remembered for her beautiful quilts, her kind, giving spirit, who would help anyone in need.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Maurice Edwin Smith; brother Donald E. Copeland, and a daughter in law, Kimberly Dawn Topie Smith.

She is survived by her daughter Betty Jane Smith Heshelman (John); son Dennis Edwin Smith; brother Dwayne M. Copeland; four grandchildren Christopher Heshelman, Aaron Heshelman, Kristy L. (Smith) Cosby, Tracey J. (Smith) Durchholz, and ten great grandchildren.

Family and Friends will gather to celebrate Phyllis’ life on Monday August 19th from 4-8pm at Carlisle Branson Funeral Service & Crematory. Services will be held on Tuesday, August 20th at 2:30pm in the funeral home. Burial will follow the services in White Lick Cemetery, Mooresville.
