Rathal K. “Ratt” Land, 53, Camby, died at home on December 26, 2011. He was born February 17, 1958, in Pennington Gap, Virginia, one of eight children born to Claude and Maxine ( Howard) Land.
Rathal attended Mooresville High School and graduated from Martinsville High School. He proudly served in the United States Army. Rathal had worked as a refrigeration engineer for Eli Lilly & Company for the past 12 years. Prior to, he worked for Edwards Mechanical. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mooresville and was very active with the Kairos Prison Ministry. He had been a member of the Mooresville Lions Club and had served as the chairman of the Lions Club Go-Kart Race. Rathal enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, cooking, and above all, spending time with his family.
Rathal was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Dame “Kenny” Land and Sonya Lee Abrahamson.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Sarajane Land; children, Jeremiah Land (Mary) of Camby, Kaleigh Land (Andy Markiewicz) of Speedway, and Dylan Rogier at home; brothers, William Boyd Land of Indianapolis and Kirby Land of Kentucky; sisters, Rhonda Crosley of Cloverdale, Armilda “Midge” Thacker of Mooresville, and Naomi Jean Mundy of Cloverdale; two grandchildren, Cadence and Annaston Grace Land; a host of nieces and nephews; his canine companion, Blondie.
Friends and family will gather on Thursday, December 29, 2011, 4 to 8 p.m., in the First United Methodist Church, 900 Indianapolis Road, Mooresville. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m., Friday, December 30, 2011, also at the church. Revs. Dennis Payton and Gene Young will officiate. Burial will be in the Brownsburg Cemetery.
