Rex Leon Birch, 76 of Plainfield passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 3, 2016 in the comfort of his own home. He was born April 10, 1939 in Sullivan County to the late John and Velma (Mitchell) Birch.
Rex was honored to serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War; during his tenure in the Army, he proudly worked at the Pentagon. Rex worked as a sales rep. for various companies throughout his life. A man with an infectious personality, he was good to all who crossed his path and treated everyone the same. He was an avid sports fan, enjoying IU basketball and Sunday NFL. Rex also enjoyed watching Jeopardy and playing Scrabble with his Scrabble group.
Along with his parents, Rex is preceded in death by, his son, Jeffrey Lee McGlocklin; two brothers, Max and Malcolm Birch; two sisters, Paula Davidson and Barbara Gainey and his grandson, Jacob Tyler Birch.
Survivors include his two sons, Brad Birch of Bloomington and Stephen Ray (Melynda) Birch of Solsberry; his sisters, Bonnie S. Bland of Plainfield, Carol (Jack) Ridinger of Jasonville and Polly (Bob) Hayes of Ellettsville; four grandchildren, Wyatt Birch, Lucas Birch, Jessica Stillwell and Jamie Chandler and five great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2016 in the chapel at Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Mooresville. Family and friends will gather from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
