Robert “Bob” H. Jones

72, of Mooresville, passed away February 14, 2018 in the Richard L. Roudebush VA Hospital in Indianapolis, after a courageous battle against cancer. Bob was born on October 1, 1945 in Garrard, Kentucky to the late Harold and Ollie Tracy Jones. As a young child, Bob moved to Indiana with his family.

Bob was a veteran of the US Army serving during Vietnam War. After service, he returned to work for Eli Lilly and Co for 29 years, retiring in 1997. After retiring, he went on to pursue his dream of becoming a police officer, completing the Reserve Basic Law Enforcement Academy of Johnson County. He served with the Morgan County Sheriff Reserve Department, worked at the Morgan County Courthouse and proudly received his retirement shield from Monrovia Police Department.

He was a member of The First United Methodist Church in Mooresville, VFW Post 103, American Legion Post 103 and the Mooresville Lions Club. Bob loved people and never met a stranger. He enjoyed annual fishing trips with longtime friends. He could frequently be found at area restaurants, talking and laughing with everyone. His nickname was “Smiling Bob Jones”. It is that wonderful smile that will live on in the memories of those who loved him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother; Lawrence Hibbard and brother-in-law Larry Spears.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years; Katherine (Barnett) Jones, son; Robert Paul (Beth) Jones, daughter; Amber Dawn (Andrew) Lucas, brothers and sisters; Nellie (Don) Sovern, Louren (Irma) Jones, Mary Spears, Larry Cochran, Tommy Cochran, grandchildren; Zachary, Mackenzie, Alyssa, Ian, Eliza, many nieces and nephews. Special friends he considered family: Tracy Huynh, Tran Vo and all of their families.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-6pm at Carlisle- Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00am in the funeral home. Graveside services will be private and he will be laid to rest in Beech Grove Cemetery, Muncie, IN.
