Robert J. Payne

Robert J. Payne, age 76, of Mooresville passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 30, 1937 in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky to the late William and Bessie Bullock Payne.

Aside from his parents he is preceded in death by two brothers, David and William Payne; and seven sisters, Mary Hansel, Zora McFerron, Louise Powell, Ada Kirby, Daisy Renner, Claris and Christina Payne.

Robert moved from Kentucky to Indiana at the age of fifteen, early on he worked at Colonial Bakery then worked at Binford and Bender and retired from Prime Source as a shop foreman. He volunteered at the Morgan County Sheriff’s Reserve. Among his many interests he enjoyed NASCAR and was a fan of Tony Stewart, he was an avid follower of the Colts, and enjoyed camping with his children.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Paula Weddle Payne; his five children, Robin Slagle ( Paul) of Indianapolis, Tony Payne ( Karen) of Indianapolis, James Payne of Monrovia, Bobbi Jean Pierce ( Roger) of Linton and Robert “ Bogie” Payne ( Amy) of Plainfield; his two brothers, James and Chester Payne; one sister, Jane Carlton of Indianapolis. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM Thursday at Carlisle- Branson Funeral Home and Crematory with burial to follow at White Lick Cemetery in Mooresville. Letcher Payne will be conducting services. Visitation will be held from 4PM until 8PM at the funeral home on Wednesday.
