Rowland H. “Whistle” Bray, 93, lifelong Morgan County resident, passed away November 27, 2018. Mr. Bray was born December 19, 1924, in Monrovia, to the late Herman Atlas and Ada Leanna Bray. He married Ernestine “Tina” (Freeman) Bray on April 12, 1947, and she survives.
He graduated from Monrovia High School and proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of the First Christian Church and the VFW Post 1111. Mr. Bray worked for Eastern Airlines for 34 years, retiring in 1984. Following retirement from Eastern, he was employed at Speedway Auto Parts and National Car Rental as a driver. Mr. Bray was a hard-working man and was strongly devoted to his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Freeman Bray; a daughter, Pamela Jo Ford; brother, Robert Ellis Bray; sister, Josephine Shuler.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Ernestine “Tina” Bray; two daughters, Vicki Lynn Green of Mooresville and Leanna Beth Bissett of Maryland; brother, Jack Leon Bray of Monrovia; seven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; ten great great grandchildren; extended family, Mac and Anita Fannon & their family.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 3, 2018, 4 to 8 p.m., at the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory. Services will begin at 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 4, 2018, in the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Mooresville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
