Ruth Toboso Alonsagay, 70 of Avon, passed away the morning of December 18, 2015 in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by her loving family. Ruth was born July 18, 1945 in Culasi, Antique, Philippines to the late Bartolome and Lea (Ledesma) Toboso. On April 29, 1970 she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Osias Mel Alonsagay; he survives.
After receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education, Ruth was proud to be among the best school teachers at Lakandula High School in Manila where she taught for 37 years; she retired in 2010. After her retirement, Ruth and Osias moved to the United States in November, 2011 to be closer to their grandchildren. She was a member of St. Joseph Parish in the Philippines, St. Susanna Catholic Church in Plainfield, Catholic Women’s League and Manila Public School Teachers Association. A caring teacher, loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister; Ruth will be missed by her family, a host of friends and her colleagues here in the United States and the Philippines.
Other survivors include her three daughters, Aimee A. (Michael J.) Curtis of Avon, Ivy A. (Alejo) Cuntapay of Avon and Hannah Paula A. (Francis Joseph) Tiosejo of the Philippines; three brothers, Throvadore Toboso of the Philippines, Leo Zaldivar of California and Vimbo Toboso of the Philippines; five sisters, Sampaguita Juarez of Texas, Zenia Dy Buco of the Philippines, Miserere Benliro of Illinois, Mirian Salde of the Philippines and Leila Alorro of Jordan; two grandchildren, Inna and Ace Cuntapay both of Avon.
Along with her parents, Ruth was also preceded in death by her brother, Othello Toboso.
Family and friends will gather for visitation on Monday, December 21 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Mooresville. Fr. Glenn O’Connor will conduct the Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22 at St. Susanna Catholic Church in Plainfield; additional calling will be there from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.
