Shigeko Takeuchi Gilbert
91, of Mooresville, passed away on October 2, 2021 at Meadow Lakes in Mooresville. Shigeko was born on July 26, 1930 in Tokyo, Japan to the late Takematsu and Komaki Takeuchi.
Imagine leaving everything and everyone that you know and moving to a country where you could barely speak the language. However, she did just that when she met and married John Gilbert on April 4, 1963. She and John lived in Mooresville for many years. During that time, she was a skilled seamstress making beautiful custom draperies for Chase Drapery. She and John moved to California for a short time but returned to Mooresville. Shigeko and John were married over 48 years at the time of his passing in 2011. She enjoyed playing cards and bowling in leagues.
Friends and family will gather on Tuesday, October 5th to celebrate Shigeko’s life from 12pm-2pm at Carlisle Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, with services beginning at 2pm Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will follow the services in White Lick Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, John.
