Shirley Ann Nichols
88, of Terre Haute, passed away on July 12, 2022. Shirley was born on August 29, 1933 in Terre Haute, Indiana to the late Alexis Grant Nichols, Sr. and Helen (Blueher) Nichols.
Shirley earned her bachelor’s degree in History with a minor in Journalism from Indiana University in 1955. She worked as an underwriter for Traveler’s Insurance for many years, retiring in 1985 and then went back to work as a sales representative for Macy’s for 20 years, retiring a second time when she was 80.
Family was the cornerstone of her life. She was very close with her brother as well as her nephews, who she considered her children, even though she never had children of her own. She enjoyed having her coffee and bagel each day at Panera and researching family genealogy. Being a lifelong conservative, she enjoyed keeping up with politics and sharing her conservative values with all. Additionally, she enjoyed spending time with her dogs, traveling the southwestern United States, and was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Indianapolis Colts. She will be missed by her loving family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Alexis Grant “Bubba” Nichols, Jr.
She is survived by her nephews, Alexis Grant “Chip” Nichols, III (Sherry), Scott Nichols (Treva), Chris Nichols (Angie), great nieces and nephews Bryant Nichols (Maria), Makenna Grubbs (Jeremy), Brooke Smith (Alex), Matt Nichols, Jacqueline Buske (Ethan), Sierra Russell, Jake Hernandez, Cody Hernandez and her much adored great-great niece, Alexis Kristine Smith.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate Shirley’s life, privately at a later date.
