Shirley Jo Burton

Shirley Jo Burton, 78, Mooresville, passed away March 8, 2020. Mrs. Burton was born September 6, 1941, in Parke County, to the late Melvin and Marian (Hazlett) Smiley.

She graduated from Decatur Central High School and worked as an LPN for 21 years at Methodist Hospital, retiring in 2003. She was a former member of Pleasant Heights Baptist Church and a longtime member of the Mooresville Order of the Eastern Star. Shirley enjoyed working crossword puzzles, sewing, and knitting. She was a faithful wife and loving mother. She will be fondly remembered for her caring, kind and generous manner.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Leland and Jesse Smiley.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Auston Burton; daughter, Linda (Rodney) Auberry of Avon; son, Randy Burton of Mooresville; brother, Keith Smiley of Mooresville; sister, Freda Faulkner of Cincinnati; grandchildren, Joseph, Bobby, James, and Sharon Auberry; great grandchildren, Jordan and Jaelyn.

Friends and family will gather Thursday, March 12, 2020, 10 a.m. until 12 Noon, at the
