Shirley Smitherman Pauley

Shirley S. (Smitherman) Pauley, 77, Mooresville, passed away October 14, 2017. Shirley was born June 26, 1940, in Martinsville, to the late Walter J. and Frances W. (White) Smitherman.

Shirley graduated as the salutatorian of the 1958 class of Mooresville High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University in 1962 and a master’s degree from Indiana University in 1964. Shirley worked for Eli Lilly & Company for 29 years and retiring in 1993 as a systems analyst. Shirley was a devout Christian and loved animals. She was also an accomplished musician and played the piano and the organ for many years. Shirley loved to garden and grew tea roses and many beautiful orchids.

Shirley was preceded in death by three siblings, Saralie, Jack N., and Bruce R. Smitherman.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Niles Eugene Pauley, to whom she was united in marriage October 9, 1966.

The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m., Wednesday, October 18, 2017, in the chapel at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville, where calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, October 17, 2017.
