Thomas William Walker, 82, of Mooresville, Indiana passed away Monday, April 6, 2015 at Hendricks County Hospital in Danville, Indiana, after battling cancer. He was born September 15, 1932, in Indianapolis to the late Frank and Nellie Julia (Twinney) Walker. Thomas was a 1951 graduate of George Washington High School. He married his sweetheart Ruby Ann Lance in April 1956. They were married 59 years.
Early in life he worked for Standard Grocery as a meat cutter before being drafted into the United States Army where he served in the Korean War. He quickly advanced to the rank of Sergeant because of his leadership qualities. Later he served for the Air Force Reserve. He worked for Chevrolet Truck and Bus for 36 years in Tool Design retiring in 1987. He enjoyed his retirement. Traveling with his wife Ruby Ann was one of his favorite things to do. He and Ruby Ann enjoyed many winters as snow birds in Florida. The two also shared a fabulous 40 day trip to Alaska in their RV.
In addition to his wife, Thomas is survived by 4 children, John F. Walker (Paula Smith Walker), Mooresville, Beverly A. Marine (James R. Marine), Mooresville, Matthew W. Walker (Cynthia Yeager Walker), Harrison, AR, and Timothy T. Walker (Angela Culver Walker), Mooresville; many grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren.
He was a member of the Mooresville Church of God for 44 years and then a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church for 12 years. Thomas was blessed with a beautiful voice and he loved to sing. He sang in church choir, cantatas, weddings, funerals, and church solos. At Mooresville Church of God he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, he helped take the youth group one year to Cades Cove, Smoky Mountains, Tennessee and he also served on the Board of Trustees. While at Good Shepherd he served multiple terms as Deacon and enjoyed many outings with his Senior Saints Sunday School Class.
In his workshop he liked to tinker on many different types of projects; wood, building, repairs, and fabricating.
Thomas William was a man of faith with a heart full of love for God, his family, and his country. The depth of his love shone bright penetrating the heart of all who called him Husband, Pop/Daddy, Grandpa Tom, and Friend. It has been said he was a “one of a kind.” To know him, you loved him.
Friends and family will gather on Friday, April 10, 2015, 4 to 8 p.m. in Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 1150 State Road 144, Mooresville. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 11, 2015, in the church. Burial will follow in Mooresville Cemetery.
