Tommy Brown Mendenhall, 80, of Monrovia, formerly of Mooresville, passed away on August 13, 2023, at his home surrounded by family. He was born in Mooresville on November 29, 1942, to the late Joe and Alice (Dotty) Mendenhall. Tommy graduated from Mooresville High School in 1960 and joined the United States Air Force where he served from 1962 to 1966. Tommy married Sue Ann (Behrman) Mendenhall in 1964, and she preceded him in death in 2020.
Tommy worked as a machinist for Allison Gas Turbine for 27 years before retiring in 1993. He was a volunteer for the Brown Township Fire Department for 28 years and for the Brown Township Arson Investigation for over 10 years.
If anything needed fixing, Tommy was right there to fix it. He enjoyed the outdoors; fishing, gardening, camping, and being a die-hard mushroom hunter. Tommy liked watching his westerns in his recliner when he was not outside. He was a hard worker always saying, “You’re burnin’ daylight”. The family will treasure his sarcasm and dry humor.
Survivors include his son, Scott (Melissa Arney) Mendenhall; daughter, Shala (Matt) Brizendine; sister, Deanna (Jake) Hammes; grandchildren, Gabbie Brizendine, Jarrett Brizendine, Joseph Mendenhall, Emalei Mendenhall; and great-grandson, Greyson Whitaker.
Final arrangements and cremation are entrusted to Carlisle Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. Please visit www.CarlisleBranson.com to share a favorite memory or to sign the online guest registry.
