Treva Richer

Treva Richer, 90, of Mooresville passed away October 13, 2018 at her home. Born December 1, 1927 in Shipshewana, Indiana Treva was the daughter of the late Earl J. and Ruby (Stahl) Miller. During her junior year at Shipshewana High School, Treva started dating Harvey Richer. In 1945, during his senior year, Harvey was drafted into the United States Navy; on their high school graduation day, Treva accepted his high school diploma on Harvey’s behalf. When Harvey was discharged from the Navy, Treva proclaimed, "if you want your diploma, you will have to marry me." On December 28, 1946, Treva was united in marriage to Harvey Richer; he preceded her in death on December 21, 2005. During their 61 years of marriage Treva and Harvey enjoyed many laughs together and world traveling; some of their destinations include, China, Hong Kong, 7 European Countries, an African Safari, a trip to Alaska, and many more.

On April 28th, 2007, Treva was blessed to find a special friend, Richard “Dick” Morley and he preceded her in death in 2018.

Treva worked part-time as a secretary at Mooresville Friends Church, First United Methodist Church, Mooresville and at Omer Park’s State Farm Insurance Agency for many years. Treva was best known, across the state and country, as the founder of P.T.I. (Protect The Innocent). Treva and her dear friend, Betty Jane Spencer, spent countless hours lobbying for innocent murder victims at the state and national levels. Treva’s work was honored by President Ronald Reagan, in the Rose Garden, to kick off National Victims of Violent Crimes week in 1977; this great honor lead to Treva being honored in her hometown as “Mooresvillian of the Year” in 1979. She was a member of Mt. Gilead Church. In her spare time, Treva enjoyed crocheting and water color painting; one of her “special paintings" is popular among Treva’s family at Christmas time.

She is also preceded in death by her two brothers, Harold and Lloyd Miller; and two sisters, Ruth Hooley and Helen Mishler.

Survivors include her two sons, Ronald (Jan) Richer of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Brent (Alvera) Richer of Mooresville; her daughter, Peggy Jo (Lee) Gormon of Mooresville; her brother, Walter Miller of Syracuse, Indiana; five grandchildren, Kyle (Heather) Gormon, Derek (Jessica) Gormon, Brittney and Bryce Richer, and Valerie (Craig) Hurter; and seven great grandchildren.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Treva Richer from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2018 in the chapel at Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, 39 E. High Street, Mooresville. The memorial service will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
