Vanessa “Jane” Cordray, 70, of Mooresville, passed away on December 27, 2024, at Franciscan Health Indianapolis. She was born in Akron, Ohio on July 1, 1954, to the late Leonard and Mary (West) Cross.
Jane graduated from John I. Leonard High School in West Palm Beach, Florida, and later earned her associate’s degree in business from Gaston College. Jane was a jack of all trades. She held various jobs as a prison guard, seamstress, fast food manager, and nursing home employee. Jane was also a supervisor at Automatic Transmission Shop in North Carolina for several years. Before retirement, she spent 15 years as a truck driver, leading her to meet her husband, Patrick Cordray. They were united in marriage in November of 2013.
When Jane was not working, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and cooking. In her younger years, she played softball and liked to drive dirt track cars. Jane also had a love for animals. She was a strong woman with a sweet soul.
In addition to her parents, Jane is preceded in death by her sister, Tammy Wilson.
Survivors include her husband of 11 years, Pat Cordray of Mooresville; daughter, Aulisha Humphries (Mike) of South Carolina; son, Billy Walker of Indianapolis; brother, Fred Cross (Charity) of Florida; sisters, Maryann Goins of Florida and Barbara Dalton of Maryland; grandchildren, Kayla Daniels (Rowdy), Auliyah Davis, Zariyah Walker, Ziva Humphries; and great-grandson, Mason Daniels.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Saturday, January 4, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the chapel at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Mooresville. The memorial service will begin at 5:00 p.m.
