Velma Lee Hilton-Alger, 83 of Indianapolis, formerly of Mooresville passed away Sunday, November 20, 2016 at her residence in Indianapolis. The daughter of James A. and Maggie Lee (Coleman) Henry, Velma was born in Livingston, Tennessee on March 21, 1933; her parents preceded her in death. She was united in marriage to her husband, Calvin Alger and he also preceded her in death.
Velma worked as a welder at Puritan Bennett in Indianapolis for 15 years; she retired in 1985. She was a long time member of the Mooresville Church of the Nazarene. A loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother Velma’s memory will forever be cherished by her loving family.
Survivors include her three daughters, Sue (Husband: David) Peters of Indianapolis, JoAnn (Husband: Bill) Fishel of Mooresville and Marsha L. (Partner: Sara Watters) Hilton of Mooresville; five grandchildren, Rachel Willis, Jeremy Copley, Michelle Lenz, Joshua Blackburn and Sabrina McCarthy; and nine great grandchildren.
Velma was also preceded in death by four brothers, Grover, James E., Earnest and Franklin D. Henry; and five sisters, Rozelle Pugh, Martha Jean Wilson, Vera E. “Diddie” Hamlin and May Henry.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Velma Alger on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in the chapel at Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at White Lick Cemetery, Mooresville.
