Vera Jean Harris

Vera Jean Harris, 92, of Mooresville, left this life on Monday, September 18, 2023.  She was born in Sullivan County, Indiana on March 27, 1931 to the late Grover Cleveland Kirk and Evaline (Alumbaugh) Kirk.

She graduated from Union High School in Dugger, Indiana with the class of 1949.  She married the love of her life, George W. Harris, on November 29, 1952.  He passed away in 1965.  She worked in accounting for Lockheed Martin for over 30 years retiring in 1993. 

Vera enjoyed playing the piano, gardening, and bird watching.  From 1961 – 2006, she lived and worked in Orlando, Florida where she enjoyed time spent with her family including her sister, Mary, who lived with her.  When she moved back to Mooresville, she joined and became an active member of Friendswood Baptist Church in Camby.  Her greatest joy in life was her family and friends. 

She leaves behind her loving family and friends including her brother, Earl (wife, Carole) Kirk of Fairbanks; twenty nieces and nephews; and a host of great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Grover and Evaline Kirk; husband, George Harris; brothers, Harry Kirk and Charlie Kirk; and sisters, Hazel Price, Mary Kirk, Mable Pullum, and Pauline Price.

The family would also like to recognize those who helped care for Vera including Carol Carroll and Linda Kephart and neighbors, Darrin and Natalie Henderson. 

Family and friends are invited to visit on Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service and Crematory in Mooresville. Vera’s Life Celebration® Service will follow beginning at 12:00 noon at the funeral home.  She will be laid to rest in First Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Franklin.
